Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 8, 2026
This policy supplements our main Privacy Policy and addresses state laws that specifically govern consumer health data. Slingshot IEP processes information related to children's educational and developmental needs, which may intersect with health and disability information under applicable state law.
1. What is consumer health data
Consumer health data is personal information that is linked or reasonably linkable to a consumer and that identifies a consumer's physical or mental health status. In the context of IEP documents and the Slingshot service, this may include:
- A child's disability classification or eligibility category under IDEA
- Assessment results, evaluation reports, or diagnostic information included in an IEP
- Health-related services listed in an IEP (e.g., OT, PT, speech-language therapy)
- Behavioral or mental health goals and supports described in an IEP
- Medication or health condition information voluntarily entered by a parent
We treat all of the above as sensitive data regardless of whether applicable law requires it.
2. How we collect this data
We collect consumer health data only when you voluntarily provide it: by uploading an IEP document, entering concerns or goals, or describing your child's needs during the preparation process. We do not infer health data from behavioral signals, browsing history, or third-party sources.
3. How we use this data
Consumer health data is used exclusively to provide the IEP preparation service you signed up for. Specifically:
- To analyze IEP documents and surface relevant goals, services, and areas of focus
- To generate preparation materials tailored to your child's specific situation
- To save your progress across sessions
We do not use consumer health data for advertising, marketing, research sold to third parties, or any purpose beyond the service itself.
4. Who we share this data with
We do not sell consumer health data. We do not share it for advertising purposes.
We share consumer health data only with infrastructure providers who process it solely to deliver the service:

Depending on your state of residence, you may have the following rights with respect to your consumer health data:
Confirm
Confirm whether we hold consumer health data about you or your child.
Access
Request a copy of the consumer health data we hold.
Delete
Request deletion of your data. You can delete a child profile directly in the app, or contact us to delete your account entirely.
Correct
Request correction of inaccurate data we hold about you.
Withdraw consent
Withdraw your consent to our processing of your data at any time. This will require deletion of your account, as we cannot provide the service without the data you have provided.

6. Maryland Online Data Privacy Act (MODPA)
Maryland residents have additional rights under MODPA, which took effect October 1, 2025. IEP-related information, including disability classification and health-related services, constitutes sensitive personal data under MODPA. We process this data only with your consent and only for the purpose of providing the service you requested.
Maryland residents may appeal a denial of a data rights request by contacting the Maryland Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division at marylandattorneygeneral.gov.
7. Washington, Nevada, and Connecticut residents
Residents of Washington (My Health MY Data Act), Nevada (Consumer Health Data Privacy Law), and Connecticut (CTDPA) have similar rights over consumer health data. We apply the same practices described in this policy regardless of your state of residence.
